BERMUDAHAY
A Jack of All Trades
Bermuda Grass, Cynodon Dactylon, is a perennial warm-season grass grown on a large scale in California's Imperial Valley. While it's primarily grown for seed used in commercial and residential turf, it's also a valuable source of animal feed.

Bermuda grass is drought tolerant, and when irrigated, it produces a high-quality grass hay. With good farm management and growing practices, the Imperial Valley produces Bermuda hay that is fed both domestically and internationally.Â
Benefits
Bermuda hay is a hardworking crop with benefits for both animals and the land:Â
-
Soft texture that calves and horses readily eat
-
Perennial crop that doesn't need to be replanted or tilled each year
-
Deep root system that uses water and nutrients efficientlyÂ
Bermuda hay is a dependable, easy-to-feed forage that's gentle on digestion and well suited for horses and young livestock. Because it comes back year after year with minimal inputs, it's also one of the most sustainable hay crops you can feed.Â
-
Extensive root system that helps store carbon in the soil
-
Low maintenance, requiring less tractor work and fewer inputs
-
Resilient and adaptable to a wide range of soil types
