Testing

Border Valley Trading has never shied away from the financial commitment required to conduct extensive testing.
Currently, every stack of Sudan we consider purchasing is sampled and tested (using NFTA guidelines) for nitrates before confirming the purchase. Over the harvest season, this equates to thousands of tests and thousands of dollars to ensure nitrate safety.

On Alfalfa hay, we run a complete feed analysis on every stack we purchase. On Bermuda hay we test for specific nutrients that meet our customer’s requirements. On Klein grass, we do 100% testing for nitrates.

To ensure accurate test results, you must first follow proper sampling methods in the field. Our certified field representatives must follow standards and guidelines set by the National Forage Testing Association (NFTA) when sampling product. Records are kept of all tests and are readily available upon request.

Whether it’s consulting with growers on “best practices” to meet the demand of the export market(s) or the actual testing of different products for different nutrients, the company is very aggressive to utilize science for help in determining the quality and safety of all forage products.
